According to Newsweek, 29% of Americans cannot identify the Vice President, 73% can’t explain why we entered the Cold War, and 44% can’t define their own Bill of Rights. Something in politics that everyone has an opinion on, however, is Donald Trump.

Trump is infamous for his shockingly insensitive comments (“Some of [the Syrian refugees] will definitely, in my opinion, will be ISIS”), his reality television show the Apprentice, and that glorious wave of blond hair that plants envy in the hearts of sorority girls nationwide.

Many consider Donald Trump and his campaign for the biggest job in America to be a joke. “Researchers here in New York created a robot that actually passed a self-awareness test,” said Jimmy Fallon. “So if you’re keeping score, that’s robots: 1, Donald Trump, 0.”

However, Trump’s poll numbers are no joke at all. According to CNN, Trump is currently leading the Republican Party’s primary race with 28% support, compared to next in line GOP candidate Ben Carson at 16%. This means that Donald Trump currently has the best shot at being the Republican’s candidate for President in 2016.

Because of this apparent success, it is time that we sat down to take a look about what his policies actually are.

First, let’s look at social issues. Donald Trump told Bloomberg News in January that he is pro-life and had changed his mind on his previous pro-choice stance. He thinks abortions should be limited, with exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother.  He has vowed to reverse Obama Care, which has some loopholes for abortion funding. He also believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but that, “you have to go with it. The decision’s been made, and that is the law of the land.” In other words, he does not necessarily personally condone gay marriage, but he is also not going to pass legislation attempting to stop it.

Another hot button issue is gun control. During a 2013 interview with Fox News, Trump stated that he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and that he generally opposes gun control. However, he would agree to have a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to buy a gun.

When it comes to immigration, Trump has some pretty strong opinions. According to MSNBC, Trump has declared that he will deport all 11 million illegal immigrants in 18 months to two years. This, he explains, is simply a process of “good management”. He says that he would also make Mexico build a wall to keep illegal immigrants from coming to the United States. He even offered himself as construction services. “I’d build it,” he said. “I’d build it very nicely. I’m very good at building things.” Trump the Builder, at your services, America.

As for the budget, Trump is an advocate of cutting costs. He calls upon his business savvy as a reason why he would be able to get the economy back into shape. He has suggested cutting income taxes from what is currently about 40% to a much more modest 15%. He plans to account for this cut by enacting a one time 14.25% tax on the wealthy and by implementing deeper spending cuts to create a more balanced budget. So far, he has been somewhat vague on exactly how he is going to cut government spending, so that is something to keep an eye out for as the campaign progresses.

When asked about entitlements, Trump told CPAC in 2013 that Republicans should not cut Social Security or Medicare. Again, he is so far unclear about how he is going to do this, but he has indicated that the effects of his economic plan will be enough to cover these programs. This past May, he tweeted that he “knows where to get the money from” and that “nobody else does”. So mysterious, Donald. Hopefully, he will stop playing coy and let the rest of us in on the secret soon.

Another important issue in the primary is international relations. Trump believes that the United States should have walked away from nuclear talks with Iran at the exact moment that Tehran reportedly rejected the idea of sending enriched uranium to Russia. He thinks that instead we should raise sanctions on Iran. He calls for closer relations with Israel and is very opposed to Israel-United States relations under the Obama administration. He also believes that a limited amount of boots on the ground is necessary to fight ISIS.

Finally, we must clear up the issue that everyone is really wondering about: is Donald Trump’s hair real? Many have claimed that hair this angelically flawless must be a toupee, but Trump has disproven this common myth. At a speech given in Greenville, South Carolina, Trump confirmed the authenticity of his mane by allowing Mary Margaret Bannister, the South Carolina House Majority leader’s wife, on stage to touch his hair for herself. “It’s my hair!” Trump exclaimed. “You have to do an inspection, this is getting crazy.” Bannister complied with this pileous request and made the following groundbreaking confirmation in regards to whether the hair is real:”Yes, I believe it is.” She also speculated that the infamous hair is constructed by a combination of gel and hairspray. So there you have it, world. Maybe if Trump is elected, he will share his #flawless hair tips in his State of the Union address. A girl can dream.
